The PR team at the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (formerly of Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley Tourist Board) has been short listed for a Chartered Institute of Public Relations Excellence Award in the ‘Outstanding in-house PR Team in the Public/Not-for-Profit Sector’ category.
The Excellence Awards recognise and reward best practice in public relations throughout the UK and acknowledge personal and team achievement at the highest professional level. The judging procedures are rigorous and test the impact of the practice of public relations on society as a whole.
This year the CIPR received 550 entries for the 20 award categories, the highest number to-date. All the short listed candidates will be interviewed by their category judges in May/June at the CIPR Headquarters in London.
The complete list of short listed entries is published on the Awards section of the CIPR’s website at
www.cipr.co.uk/excellence, along with a full list of judges. Others short listed in the category ‘Outstanding in-house PR Team in the Public/Not-for-Profit Sector’ are Blackburn and Darwen Borough Council, the British Heart Foundation, Darlington Borough Council, Greenwich Council and the NSPCC.
The Glasgow City Marketing Bureau team submission comprised activity undertaken between January 2004 and February 2005, including the launch of the city’s brand Glasgow: Scotland with style and work in support of new air routes from America (US Airways), Dubai (Emirates) and Sweden (Ryanair). The team comprises Nancy McLardie - Head of PR, Moira Dyer – Senior Manager PR and Caroline Gray – PR Executive.
Colin Farrington, CIPR Director General and Secretary to the Judges said: “Yet again, the standard of entries has been very impressive, reflecting a vibrant and innovative communications industry. The CIPR is all about advancing the PR industry and raising standards through identifying, recognising, rewarding and spreading the word about best practice. Reaching the final short list in any category is a real achievement, and the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is to be congratulated. It is work like this that demonstrates why Britain is leading Europe in public relations and home of the most thriving public relations in the world.”
Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of the new Glasgow City Marketing Bureau added: “Public relations has played a huge part in repositioning the city of Glasgow as a creative, dynamic and progressive destination for the 21st century. The small PR team at the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau punches well above its weight and I am delighted that the Chartered Institute of Public Relations has recognised this.”
The winners will be announced at the Excellence Awards Presentation Dinner at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Wednesday 6 July. The host for the evening is Gyles Brandreth, comedian, author and TV personality.
Following the reorganisation of Scottish tourism, the PR department at Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley Tourist Board transferred to the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau on 1st April. While at GG&CVTB, the team won PR Team of the Year (in-house) at the Scotland IPR PRide Awards 2004/05.
